My Turn Performing Arts
My Turn Performing Arts, was the resident theater of Highland Blush café in downtown Alma, Michigan. It began when Damian Sanderson, owner of Highland Blush, invited a group of theater loving people to work together in his space to create some unique intimate innovative theater. It began with some loosely formed ideas about what stage craft could be in the small space of a café.
In the fall of 2018, before the theater group had a name, Damian led the group in a loosely scripted mystery dinner theater to the thrill of the patrons who enjoyed both the mystery and the dinner.
The first official production was the Festival of Short Plays for a Small Stage in May of 2019, which was a collaboration with Alpha Psi Omega of Central Michigan University Theater. It has grown each year since.
Upcoming Shows
Awakenings (a dramatic reading) - November 2 7:30pm
Heather Room, Alma College
Max, with a history of objectifying and exploiting women, awakens to the reality of the personhood of each woman. Jonathon is awakened to the possibility of his own impure motives when accused of such, which leaves him socially paralyzed. And Lily is awakened to her social self-determination. On one hand tragic, on one hand hopeful, this play is an exploration of impacts and perpetuation of, and repentance from, misogynistic attitudes.
2025, Festival of Short Plays & Pieces - May 23, 24, 25th, 2025.
More information to come. Stay tuned to our Facebook page and here for future information.
Past Productions
2024, Festival of Short Plays & Pieces - “The Search” April 4, 5, 6
Three short plays, a movement/dance piece and a poetry collection explore the places we find and experience the Good in life. The pieces explore how we can be understanding with each other in situations where we could be perturbed, how we can expand our gentle side through unexpected gifts from the innocent little ones, how we can learn to forgive ourselves, how we can give ourselves and others mercy while we challenge ourselves to a greater understanding of how it all fits together in a world that is far from perfect.
We are pleased and honored to be hosting the U.S. premier of “Bliss Rd,” the Poetry Thesis presentation by Joshua Zeitler, recent graduate from Alma College’s Master’s in Creative Writing Program, which was first presented in Italy during his final residency.
We are also presenting new material, “Estonia” from Raymond Goodwin, playwright extraordinaire for solo plays that are touching and meaningful. You may have seen many of his previous works produced by us or other theaters in our area. - Online Video
We are presenting the winner of the first ever My Turn short play contest, “153” by Steven G. Martin of Lafayette, IN, which explores forgiving oneself in a unique dialogue. - Online Video
New works also include Carolann Plank-Elliot’s fun short “Cold Feet” - Online Video
Michelle Lucchesi’s movement piece, “A Dawning,” which challenges the way we see and hear what’s happening on stage while exploring spiritual growth and understanding. - Online Video
We believe this year’s collection of short plays and pieces will be enjoyable, thought provoking and challenging. Please come join us.

In this solo play, a young woman reviews letters she has written to neighbors from a tumultuous time in her teen years, and to Ester Greenwood, the fictional narrator of The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath, in an attempt to find solace, catharsis, and perhaps even healing. The letters track her journey through grief, from trying to wrench idealism from the world to finding it in the steadfastness and love of everyday people.
